FLORA About 260,000 hectares of the Los Glaciares National Park are covered with ice and have no vegetation. A further 95,000 hectares are occupied by lakes. Only about 79,000 hectares are forests, in which lengas and guindos (Magallanic cohiue) are the most common species. The Estancia Cristina flora belongs to the Magellan District, the southernmost district in Argentina. Anemones, yellow violets, zapatito de la virgen (Calceolaria uniflora), arvejilla (Lathyrus subandinus) and geum (Geum borisii ) are among the herbs that can be found here. The wetter areas near the lakes, lagoons and rivers home lichens such as barba de viejo (glechonophylla). |
