Fishing in the Caterina River and the Anita Lagoon
Caterina River offers fishermen an ideal environment for fly-fishing. The season starts on November 01 and finishes on May 01.
The River is only 8 km long from its origin at Anita Lagoon to its mouth at Lago Argentino. Its pits and running waters makes it ideal for catching rainbow touts (oncorhynchos mykiss).
In February the River turns into a unique place for catching the Pacific salmon or Chinook (oncorhynchus tshawytscha), a species that usually comes into the river to deposit its eggs and die.
Fishing becomes very interesting at the first stage of the river because of the fight put up by these giants. In the last two seasons, pieces weighing over 14 kilograms have been caught.
The rainbow trouts found here are not very big. However, the combination of their great numbers and the beauties of the river make this fishing spot unique in Patagonia. A Fishing Permit is required , which is obtained at the Estancia or at the Office of the National Parks Management. It is recommended to have one’s own fishing gear.
If you wish to, we can contact a fishing guide in Calafate to enjoy the excursion with a professional fisher. The beautifull lake makes this place unique.
